Philippians is one of the Apostle Paul’s most personal and uplifting letters. While imprisoned, Paul sent this letter to the church in Philippi, a Roman colony in Macedonia, to encourage the believers and express his gratitude for their support. Despite his dire circumstances, the letter radiates joy and confidence in Christ. Philippi was one of the first cities in Europe where Paul established a church, and the believers there remained close to his heart. This study will take us on a journey to discover how Paul maintained joy and contentment, no matter his circumstances, because of his relationship with Christ.

- Joy: Paul speaks of joy over 16 times, showing how it is rooted not in external situations but in Christ.

- Humility: Christ’s example of humility, especially as seen in Philippians 2:5-8, serves as a model for all believers.
- Faith: Paul calls for steadfast faith, regardless of trials, trusting that God will bring His good work to completion.

Introduction to the Author, Paul, and His Circumstances While Writing
Paul, once a persecutor of Christians, was dramatically converted after encountering Christ on the road to Damascus. Now an apostle, Paul dedicated his life to spreading the gospel and nurturing churches. At the time of writing this letter, Paul was under house arrest in Rome, awaiting trial. Despite this, his letter exudes hope, joy, and encouragement. Heavenly Father,
We thank You for this opportunity to study Your Word together and dive into the message of joy that Philippians brings. As we begin this journey, we ask for Your wisdom and understanding. Open our hearts to receive the joy and peace that come from knowing You. Just as Paul found joy in all circumstances, help us to discover how we too can live in the fullness of Your joy, no matter what we face. Guide us to live in unity, humility, and faith, and strengthen us as we grow together in Your love.
