Isaiah 9:6
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Advent is a season of great joy, not because of fleeting moments or temporary pleasures but because of the incredible promise fulfilled in the birth of Christ. As we explore The Light of Joy, we are reminded of the deep and abiding joy that comes from knowing and experiencing God’s love through His Son.
Joy in the Promise
Isaiah’s prophecy proclaims the coming of a Savior, a child who would bring hope, peace, and salvation to the world. This promise filled the hearts of God’s people with anticipation and joy, even as they endured seasons of hardship. The same promise fills us with joy today as we look back on Christ’s birth and forward to His return.
The Birth of Jesus
The angel’s announcement to the shepherds on the night of Jesus’ birth declared “good news of great joy for all people” (Luke 2:10). This joy was not reserved for a select few but extended to all humanity. The birth of Jesus is a celebration of God’s immeasurable love and His desire to dwell with us. It is a moment that changed history and continues to transform lives.
Joy Beyond Circumstances
Worldly happiness often depends on favorable conditions, but the joy of Christ is steadfast, rooted in His unchanging character and eternal promises. Even in the midst of challenges, we can experience joy because of who He is—our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. This joy transcends our circumstances, giving us strength and hope in every season.
Sharing Joy
Joy is contagious and meant to be shared. This Advent season, we are called to reflect the light of Christ’s joy by loving others, offering acts of kindness, and spreading the good news of His birth. Whether through a kind word, a generous act, or a heartfelt prayer, sharing joy is a powerful way to point others to the true meaning of Christmas.
Application
Light the Candle of Joy
Light the third Advent candle, symbolizing joy, and meditate on Isaiah 9:6. Take time to thank God for the joy found in Christ and the blessings He has poured into your life.
Make a Gratitude List
List the things you are grateful for as a reminder of God’s goodness. Reflect on how these blessings reveal His love and bring joy to your heart.
Plan a Joyful Celebration
Organize an activity or gathering with family and friends that focuses on the true meaning of Christmas. Whether it’s reading the Christmas story, singing carols, or serving others together, make joy the centerpiece of your celebration.
As we light the candle of joy, may our hearts overflow with the joy of Christ’s coming. Let us embrace this joy, share it with others, and live as testimonies of the good news that “to us a child is born, to us a son is given.” May this Advent season be a time of rejoicing in the light of His love.
Isaiah 9:6 is a great prophetic text and the promise of Jesus – The Messiah, The Christ, The King, The Savior.
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and … he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” The Christmas Season is a season of joy because this promise was fulfilled in the birth of Jesus. He is the Forever Father & the Ruler of Peace. He is the Extraordinary Advisor with supreme wisdom. He is the Powerful God. Jesus said it himself “I and the Father are One!” John 10:30 and John 14:9 Jesus came, He lived, He died on the cross for our sins, He was buried in a tomb, the third day He rose from the dead, He appeared to many and then ascended – and just like he kept the promise of His first coming He will keep the promise of His coming again! John 14:3 J. B. Phillips translation states Jesus’ words like this: “It is true that I am going away to prepare a place for you, but it is just as true that I am coming again to welcome you into my own home, so that you may be where I am.”
