I had been on Facebook for years before I realized there were Facebook groups. The first groups I became a part of were all related to homemaking, cleaning and cooking. Then one day it dawned on me that there might be groups for other things I have interest in, namely Genealogy.

I was excited to join these groups (U.S. Midwest Genealogy Research Community, U.S. South Genealogy Research Community, Are You My Cousin? Community and Genealogy: for Beginners and Helpers)  After I had been in them for a while I began to feel comfortable to post information. I am so grateful that the individuals in these groups are just as passionate about Genealogy and History as I am.

Many times I have posed a question or listed some information and almost instantaneously I have responses. Sometimes they are filled with encouragement or guidance to other resources.  And sometimes there is more, so much more. The information I have gleaned from these groups has been extremely helpful.

One question stands out above all the others.  I posted a question about Theodore Zimmerman(my biological father) and asked if anyone had a picture on “Genealogy For Beginners & Helpers”.  I saw the attached newspaper clipping and assumed it was his obituary. Then I read it….

Boy what a shocker. It is not the full article. I knew he had died, I had been told it was a motorcycle accident. As I look over this, sadness comes over me as I see how he actually died. I also felt a sense of anger as I that about what was going on that this could have happened. I am curious if the other person was found and where they are now.

I have thought about seeing if I could get a copy of the policy report.  Would it provide answers or would it raise more questions? I have emailed the Council Grove Republican the paper this was published to see if they have the rest of the article and any subsequent articles pertaining to Theodore Zimmerman.

I am still looking for a picture of Theodore Zimmerman. I would love to know what traits  I have that are his and if I can see him in my children.

Do any of you use Facebook sites? What other resources do you use in your research?
