I remember my Grandma Betty had Peony’s and when we would visit, I would sit on the old porch swing going back and forth. Every time the that ol swing would go back your senses would be overpowered by their sweet citrusy smell.
On cooler days I would venture off the porch and go sit in the little hide away that the peony’s created. As an only child I often was left to my own devises and I would sit under there just day dreaming. And after I discovered grandmas old photo album I would sit under there flipping through looking at the “glamorous” photos of grandma with her big sparkly broaches and fur coats.
I have never attempted to grow a Peony. I do think that I would love to add a couple to the outside of the property that faces Sawyer and the fire house. It is a long term goal something that will not happen until we replace the fence in a couple of years.
Mr. Tom and his wife are our neighbors who share our love of gardening. He has a very pretty space with some amazing flowers. On either side of his drive he has peony’s and along the portion of his yard that faces our house he has more. The pictures above are from a quick shoot I did of Mr. Tom’s Peony’s. The various shades of pink against the vivid green draw me in. The center one was fairly lighter than the rest. It remined me of delict paper.
Peony’s are in the top three flowers that I love. What are your favorite flowers?
