Paul’s Questions to the Roman Church Challenge
Romans provides a clear presentation of Christian doctrine. Paul discusses the sinfulness of man and how because of rebellion against God, mankind is condemned. Moreover, Paul shows how God through grace offers us justification by faith in Jesus. He continues the discussion with our redemption and sanctification.
Romans is broken up into 11 chapters of doctrine and 5 chapters of practical instruction. Paul shows in Romans how human beings lack God’s righteousness because of our sins (1–3), yet we can receive God’s righteousness when God justifies us by faith (4–5), then we can demonstrate God’s righteousness by being transformed from rebels to followers (6–8), then confirm His righteousness when God saves the Jews (9–11), and finally, we are to apply His righteousness in practical ways throughout our lives (12–16).
In part three let’s take a look an even deeper look into Romans and look at the questions Paul asked and see how they apply to us. Paul used these questions to propel the church in Rome forward by challenging them to dig deeper. Paul did not know who started the church of Rome and he had some concerns as to their foundation and function as a body of believers. I have broken Paul’s questions up over the next 15 days. Let’s document the questions Paul posed to the Roman church.
Grab your journal and favorite pen and beginning with day 1 open the scripture to Romans, starting with 2:3, and journal Paul’s question and let it challenge you.
